What is a mentored grooming competition?
A mentored grooming competition is structured like a regular grooming contest, with the addition of a mentor (an experienced competitor) who will be available during the competition time to answer questions or offer advice.

Who can enter?

We welcome any level of professional or amateur groomer or dog show exhibitor to enter! We think its a fantastic learning opportunity for all!

What breeds of dogs are eligible?

For this fun match we welcome all breeds and mixed breeds to enter!

How much time will we get to groom?

All groomers will get 15 minutes longer than their standard grooming competition time for their breed. Meaning just about everyone will get between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete their groom.

What can/should be done prior to the competition?

Dogs should arrive bathed, dried, brushed and combed. Nails trimmed, sanitary areas may be clipped along with paw pads. Poodles may have their feet shaved.

What do I bring?

Bring your dog on a leash or in a kennel. A grooming table (unless you indicated during registration that you would like to borrow ours, hurry tables are limited) Any and all grooming tools you may need to complete your groom. Who are our mentors?

Former Groom Team Canada travel team member and groomer/owner/handler of the Canada's top American Cocker Spaniel in 2021, Annie Williams is joined by current Groom Team Canada travel team member and Canada's #2 competitive groomer in 2025 Melissa Abbott to offer two unique perspectives for our competitors!  With competitive experience across all 5 class types Melissa and Annie have the expertise to answer all your questions and help you succeed!

Who is our judge?

Canada's sweetheart Jovi Wagner joins us all the way from Saskatoon! Jovi is a second generation professional groomer and a CKC breeder and exhibitor of Welsh Terriers and Irish Wolfhounds. Jovi is the Captain of Groom Team Canada and lead her team to a Silver Medal at the 2024 World Grooming Championship! Jovi has a passion for the education and mentorship of groomers of all levels and is excited to offer in depth, supportive critiques of your work.

Does participating in the Fun Match contest disqualify me from competing in the main West Coast Groom Fest First Timers competition in May?

No. When qualifying groomers for the First Timers class at WCGF's sanctioned show May 29-31 we only considered other sanctioned grooming contest events. You can practice at the Fun Match and still enter as a First Timer at WCGF's main show!

Where can I bathe my dog?

You can bathe your dog at home, at your salon or you may reserve a prep time at The Foxy Hound, a grooming salon located next door to the venue.
